Words are what communication is based on. In rap songs yes, the word is often used. In most cases the word is used in the context of "friend" or "dude". I say dude because I once used the word but myself and my friends have replaced it. Why because others don't understand how we were using it. That is just like how women refer to each other as the B-word but if a man does it the meaning is different.

its true that white man used to use "dude" as a term for friend. Maybe blacks too I don't know. However now blacks and whites hang out more then ever and if a white man calls a black man a dude, they look at them like their crazy. So whites will use the same term as they use which sadly is the N word with an a instead of er. I couldn't imagine seeing a black man and white man call one another dude lol. With that being said I think and maybe this is far fetched, I think if a famous black man creates a universal slang for friend that a white man and black man can use toward each other, they could have the power to give our young future a word in place of dude or the N word. You know what I am saying. Not just a word that means white friend or black friend but just simply friend. I know it would be nice if they could simply say "friend" but they are young and "cool" they want a cool name. The famous rappers have all the power to make that happen. You can't just tell them "don't say it". It just won't work. Maybe I'm wrong, just thinking out loud.
