My husband was a volunteer firefighter for 25 years and I wish I had a nickel for everytime we went to go somewhere and got to the door and his fire pager would go off. The kids and I would go back into the house and off he would go to the fire. That is what he chose to do to give back to the community and we supported him 100%. You never knew when he left what would happen or if he would come back okay. It is hard to deal with but if they choose to do this profession and you love them enough you will support them. I also was an EMT on our volunteer ambulance service and I was gone a lot. We both gave for the other. We had a gas station and my husband spent a lot of time there so I quit my job and worked with him. When the kids were babies they sat in a swing in the window and they grew up around the business and the active life we had. I did not become an EMT until our kids were both teens. They also followed in our footsteps. Our son became a volunteer firefighter and our daughter became an EMT. We were all very supportive of each other. When my husband passed away in March of this year we had been married 36 years and not one fight. That is the truth.
