Oh, you took the works right out of my mouth!!! As I'm sure everyone knows, NYC is by far one of the the craziest cities on the map. I love it there as far as historical marks but even I was nearing a mental breakdown and I was with a group of people.

One of my personal experiences on a NYC subway, I was with my family riding just to see some points of interest and as you know you can walk car-to-car. It was night time and a lesser than desireable man walk into the car we were in. I am in no way passing judgement because he could not help his outward appearance but it looked like he was completely covered with leprosy. He was steadily prophesying on how everyone was going to be damned to hell if they didn't turn their life around and live the way he was talking about. It scared me to death, I just knew someone was going to whip out a gun and we were going to get caught in the crossfire. Luckily, I was wrong. I've never been so scared in my life! That's why I can't imagaine a woman DELIBERATLY leaving her son there ALONE with nothing but $20 a SUBWAY card and a map. You're absolutely right, that's child abuse in every since of the word! Anything could have happened, like you said. I am constanly asking the "what if" questions. It's sad that people don't have anymore smarts than that. This mom isn't "just irresponsible," she's down right stupid!!!

Letting your nine year old son in a department store and on the subway by him self is not safe. There are some really bad people out there in this world. That women has a bolt lose in her brain somewhere. I am surprised that the police have not come nocking on her front door.

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR CHILDERN FROM BIRTH TO 18 FOR MALES AND 21 FOR FEMALES, WHY, IS IT SO HARD FOR THE WORLD TO GET THAT NOW A DAYS?

While I don't entirely agree with the mother who let her son lose on the NEW YORK subway, I wouldn't say she was abusing him, either. If a child is intelligent and resourceful, exercises like this can be a learning experience as long as they have been engaged in an active dialouge with their parents about "stranger danger" starting at an early age.

You are also forgetting a very important fact: that child molestation and abduction is almost ALWAYS perpetrated by someone the child and his/her family KNOWS! Sadly, too often it occurs within the child's own family. There was a case of incest in the family right down the street from us 15 years ago, and we live in what most people would call "a nice, white, middle-class suburb."

Was I "abusing" my daughter by letting her go to Girl Scout camp a few years ago? When she came home, she told me that one her bunkmates was a "cutter," and was trying to get the others girls in the cabin to do it, too. But because my daughter and I had already talked at length about various "what-if" scenarios, my daughter was able to distract the distraught bunkmate, seize the sharp object, and then run for one of the counselors, making sure all the "non-cutting" bunkmates came with her. At all times, she was concerned that nobody, including the emotionally distraught girl or her other roommates, would get hurt. The girl's parents were notified immediately and she was sent home.

You and me both, I cant believe there arent more people on here freaking out about that. Some one needs to report her to CPS. So sad and so scarey, all at the little boy's expense. When he is older (if he makes it that long) maybe he will ask him mom "What the HELL were you thinking?" She's an idiot and doesnt deserve such a child.
