Quote From: kristykingSuicide brings up a lot of emotions for me, because my father completed suicide on May 28, 2007. I have since read a lot of information about suicide. I am saddened by some of the comments here. People must educate themselves on the depths of depression and mental illness. You could possibly save someones life by doing so. My father completed suicide because he felt like he was a burden to his family and country. He was such an unselfish person his whole life. He always put everyone before himself including God. He is a very religious man that devoted time to God every day. What we thought was just normal depression over being disabled and in a wheelchair was actually more in depth than we will ever understand. I think that the Dr.Phill show will bring more awareness to suicide, and that is definitely needed. As far as the bridge goes, we can't stop people from suicide in that way, they will only find another way. How anyone could video tape another persons suicide is beyond my comprehension. To anyone thinking about suicide: PLEASE TALK TO SOMEONE. Your choices could effect so many other lives.
I'm really sorry to hear about your father. But this post was indeed an insightful one and I hope that people will read it. You're correct, if someone is going to take their life, they will do it one way or another. The best thing someone can do in this position is to talk to someone they trust. I am disabled also, although I am not in a wheelchair. I have severe chronic pain due to 2 failed back surgery's and 1 reconstructive surgery. I am on another message board for people with severe spine problems. Suicide is a subject that comes up frequently and there is a thread related directly to it. There are also many people on there who are extremely compassionate and supportive. For people who live in chronic pain, or are disabled, this is not an uncommon thought. I wish your father could have found an outlet for his mental pain and support from others who share it. I find it hard to believe that God cannot forgive those who do this when they are faced with pain day in and day out. I just hope more than anything that others find the support they need before it comes down to such drastic measures.
God Bless You.
