Quote From: mommyjenna I've stated before, if there was no God I wouldn't care less about this subject. Fact is, I do believe there is a God and I also believe that he does not condone this lifestyle, in fact He despises it.
I base my truth upon the Bible. Most Christians do. It's the only absolute truth I know of. I'm not 'hiding' behind' anything.
I don't know why you doubt the books of the Bible by the statement you've made.
The Koran is not the same thing at all as the Bible. They are two completely separate peices of literature. Both Christians and Muslims would agree.
The Bible is written to our understanding. It's pretty clear.
While the vatican may have made it illegal at one point in history to own a Bible in Italy, this was during a time long after it had already been written and widely dispersed. As soon as the books were written they were recopied and distributed all over. The early Christians were very eager to go forth and preach the gospel.
There have been many attempts to destroy the Bible or to make it illegal but it's still the all time best seller.
well the bible can be as absolute as you want (which I don't agree) but as soon as you I or anyone will read it our own History ideals and so on will make us to interprerit it our own way it is just human nature and you'll do it with the bible but also with moby dick a postcard or an advertisment for that matter. So even if it was an absolute truth as soon as you start reading it it wasn't anymore
Well it is the walking on water thing (if he did that in Norway or Sweden I would've had a lot less trouble with it) and turning water into wine and stuff that made me doubtfull. together with creating the Earth in seven days thing.
No I never wanted to suggest the Koran was the same thing as the bible I could've used yesterdays paper for that example it was just the first I could think of.
Well the bible is written to our understanding that is the problem: Well think of it this way if you want to explain to a 5 year old how she was born you wont step into the details right? now we are the 5y old so if you where god wouldn't you cut some corners here and there.
Well they werent redistributed all over since printing wasn't invented till the late 16th century (if I'm not mistaken) untill that time it was far to expensive for the common wealthy after that time still a few people could afford a bible. And even if they could they couln't read let alone read latin. So it took centuries before it became a best seller. And then many people own it but I think that a lot of them haven´t acually read it.
