choosing desires

Quote From: lamoduvo

First of all, I'm a bit surprised that this issue wasn't tackled in a more realistic manner.  You know, I'd like to see more "normal" gay people being portrayed instead of the stereotypical (or what society assumes we look like) gay person.  And this idea that all gay people wear their homosexuality must be addressed.  I feel that Dr. phil gave this audience exactly what they assumed they'd get.

Secondly, my question is to anyone out there who'll answer this without giving me a bunch of "hogwash".  Ok, we're created with perfection.  As far as I know, God doesn't make mistakes, right?  Well then, am I a mistake because according to some Christians, God made a hugh mistake.

I know I was born this way.  As far back as I can remember, I've been attracted to the same sex.  Yes, my first "sexual" memory was of the same sex.  I'm sorry, I just don't get the big deal!

I don't know of any psychologist who would agree that we are able to choose our desires and what we are attracted to. It's not like you can convince yourself  "No I'm not attracted to this person" or "Yes this unattractive person is really attractive".

Is there any example taken from some other topic, like food, where if one hates broccoli, it is considered a choice?
