Welcome, Pam.  As Anita said, this board isn't getting much activity lately -- in fact, I think we're the only two on it right now!  Yes, Anita, I'd love to dust off my Dr. Phil book and discuss it.  That might help.

I've lost 13 pounds to date.  It's coming off slowly, at the rate of a pound or two a week, but I'll get there.  Then the challenge will be keeping it there!  I've actually lost the craving for fast food...well, mostly.  Last night I took the kids to Chik Filet between chess and karate, and I got their Southwest chicken salad.  The kids had nuggets and fries, and I only ate two of their nuggets and a couple of fries!  I know I'm flirting with disaster when I take them for fast food.  We usually do it a couple of nights a week.  After-school stuff isn't what it was when I was a kid!

Joining the Y has helped me a lot, but I'm fortunate enough to have a fairly flexible schedule.  Don't know what I'd do if I taught or did a 9-to-5 job.  I'm a Navy Reservist too, and last spring I asked a Marine GySgt to provide me with some PT (Physical Training) accountability.  He was all too happy to comply!  I email him weekly with what I've done (or haven't), and he gives me advice.  Actually, it's more like instruction -- even though he always starts with, "...with all due respect, ma'am" -- and then he tells me what he really thinks.

Here's a quote from the Gunny last week:

"With all due respect, ma'am, there is NO EXCUSE for no PT six days a week.  If you're going to have a busy day, set your little Mickey Mouse clock for 20 minutes early and GET YOUR LAZY BUTT OUT OF BED and JUST DO IT!!!  Remember a walk around the block is STILL PT!  You need to do this for YOURSELF, your husband, your kids, the Marines, and YOURSELF."

Sometimes I need a kick in the you-know-what.  I know that doesn't do it for everyone, but the Gunny's "encouragement" always gets me back on track.

Again, I'd love to do the book.

Gertie

I think I'm going to print your Gunny's words out and put in on the garage door to the kitchen.  My trainer was like your Gunny--I've worked out at the same gym for about 15 years.  It is a small place and the trainer/owner was a tiger.  But she sold the place and ran off and got married.  They have found no tigers--everone is so nice and understanding.  I need a kick in the fanny to keep me going some times.

It isn't enough, but I've parked in the teacher parking lot a few times instead of the handicap when I know I need to walk more or I know that I will be having one of those days where I have to sit most of the time.  It is a half mile +/- to be room and back.  But, I have a stationary bike in my living room, so there is no excuse for NO exercise at all!!!!  Where does this Gunny live????????????

We both need to pledge to do some IE today!

Hugs,

Anita
