11/18 “My Child Can’t Stop Eating”

Quote From: arose511

I am interested in this topic because when my daughter was little her life seemed to revolve around food.  I wonder why these kids always want to eat and what makes them constantly hungry.  Since my daughter was on ritalin for ADHD it supressed her appitite enough so that she wasn't obese as a young child.  Now that she is older, it has caught up with her and she is obese.

It is very difficult when you have a family with all types of food likes and dislikes to keep everyone happy.   I have an active son who hardly eats all day and then pigs out all night long.  He is very strong and weight appropriate.  As my daughter reached her teens and began picking her own food choices, as she left the house and went out with friends, my control ended.  This is when all her weight began to add up.  What will happen to these kids once they are on their own.  I think we need to look at why food is so important to them.

Keep in mind that no matter what you keep in the house, if food is an issue, the child will find quantity and eat it, unless we figure out what is making them so hungry.

I have often thought of writing to Dr. Phil but now that my daughter is a young adult, I guess she has to figure this out for herself.  She doesn't seem to let it bother her, and seems to be happy.  If anyone has any suggestions please comment.  Just to let you know, the rest of the family is healthy and average weight.

The over-eating kids Dr Phil has had on his show are usually eating foods with highly addictive ingredients. Especially fried foods. And, those sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. Even though a few products, such as Capri Sun fruit juices, Thomas English muffins, and one Nabisco snack item, are no longer sweetened with HFCS, almost everything else is. This, according to Dr Sears, cause inflammation. It's also highly addictive. So are fried foods. That's why so many kids are scarfing down chicken strips and fries. And, washing them down with Coke and Pepsi. Some of these kids are average weight. Or, even skinny. But, are they healthy?
