Hold Doc Liable

Quote From: eggsrule

First of all, the embryos are transferred into the uterus....not implanted.

THe embryos implant themselves if they are viable and the uterine environment is primed for "implantation".  The chances of implantation are generally very low.

However, with this patients previous history (fertiilty), the doctor should not have transferred more than one embryo.

This doctor should not have treated her period knowing her circumstances.  I feel the doc should be held financially responsible for these children.

Second point.  Any doctor that sees multiple follicles present themselves on an ultrasound will not do an intrauterine insemination due to the risk of multiples....i.e kate plus 8.  so the doctors treatment of patients is once again poor.

As an embryologist I know how these multiples occur and just how to avoid.

I agree that in this case the doctor should be held financially responsible for the children. Probably that's not legally possible, but I think California should pass a law like that to prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

You say you're an embryologist and know how multiples occur and how to avoid it???  Well I'm NOT an embryologist and I can tell you how multiples occur and how to avoid it.  STOP HAVING IVF!!!!!!  Hello.....  if you are a SINGLE, UNEMPLOYED MOTHER OF 6... LIVING OFF OF WELFARE AND IN THE HOME OF YOUR MOTHER....WHY ON EARTH EVEN GO BACK FOR 1 MORE BABY??? MUCH LESS TAKE THE CHANCE OF HAVING MULTIPLES?

For everyone saying don't blame the mother, blame the doctor... YES, the doctor holds some responsibility here, because he was irresponsible in placing 6 embryos in this woman.... but the mother needs to be held responsible to her actions.  She walked into that Dr.'s office and she had the doctor implant her with not 1...but 6 embryos.... when she can't even take care of the kids she already has... GIVE ME A BREAK!  AND NOW SHE HAS TAX PAYERS SUPPORTING HER IRRESPONSIBLE ACTIONS!!!!  UNBELIEVABLE!
