You are absolutely right

Quote From: jaydavis1

I see now why other countries think Americans are so arrogant. To think that our law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, can solve a crime so much better and more efficiently than another country is so arrogant it is laughable. We have so many cold cases in this country the networks and cable TV have enough shows (Cold Case Files, etc.) for years to come. There are mistakes made in most if not all investigations in this country so do not think we are infallible just because its the FBI doing the investigating. You and your family are far more likely to come to harm right in your own hometown as opposed to outside the US as there is probably a convicted sex offender (or two) living right in your neighborhood. If you chose to live your life in fear by not traveling or allowing your children to experience other cultures and countries that is certainly your perogative, but do not expect everyone else to follow suit and boycott a beautiful island just because of the remote possibility of becoming a crime victim.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

People are viewing this case from one-side.  They are acting on pure emotion without a full look at the hard facts.  They sum up their beliefs from segments of the Dr Phill show and use that to make blanket statements about a country and a case.  Ridiculous!

You are right.  Other countries do see Americans as arrogant...and ignorant.

I also agree that it is laughable that American citizens are suggesting the FBI should be allowed into investigate.  Right!  Would you ever see the US allowing another countries law inforcement officials in to investigate a crime.  I don't think so.

If you think the Amerian government or the American law inforcement agencies have never messed up a case then you are more brain-washed by American patriotism than you think.

One of the nice things about living in the US is that you and your children can travel and experience different cultures and beautiful places without ever leaving our borders.  Heck, in New York City, you can do that in a 10 block radius!  You are right when you say that harm can come to you right here at home as well as anywhere else.  But there are certain things you can do to protect yourself and your children from harm.  I don't allow my children to engage in behavior that significantly raises their chances of getting hurt.  I don't allow them to juggle knives.  I don't allow them to play in traffic.    I don't allow them to ride their bikes on the block where a registered sex offender lives, and I don't allow them to travel to a country where young girls get abducted and disappear.  Yes, I know, that can happen here in the good ol' U.S. of A. as well, but it is my responsibility as a parent to protect them in every way I can.  So no, my children will not go to Aruba while they are under my care.

As far as myself, I wouldn't go to Aruba if it was free.  That is a personal decision, it has nothing to do with the boycott.  Do I support the boycott?  Absolutely.  But I really don't think refusing to travel to Aruba constitutes living my life in fear.  I think that's just inflamatory rhetoric.

I never said that our FBI could do a much better job!  I did say that they should have allowed us to help in the investigation in any way.  More people working on this together makes the most sense.

I do travel and again you are putting words in my mouth!  I have been to Israel, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Bahamas, Japan, and Holland.  I am boycotting the island because I do not feel that they used every means available and necessary to find this girl.

I do not live in fear, nor do I have or want any children.  Still, I do feel that letting teenagers go on trips like this without adult supervision is risky and not something I would personally allow unless they were in a secured area with chaperons and escorts.
