12/13 Moms' Biggest Mistakes

Quote From: reb299

Doesn't this tell you anything? Get a job or two! If you have a job, try getting a better, more affording job!

Right. Because it's easy for a mother of two to just go out and work two jobs or get a better paying job. *Rolling eyes*

Did you know that women who have children, when asked in interviews if they do have children, are less likely to be hired then childless women?

Yes. You read that correctly. It is more difficult for a mother to get a job then a woman who is not a mother.

I don't think you fully understand the difficulties of single moms, particularly those single moms with special needs children and a deadbeat dad. Employment opportunities are limited for single moms due to the extra time off to deal with your kids as a single parent. Alot of employers don't want the hassle and will do their best to steer clear of hiring single parents. Yes, that's illegal in the US but it continues to happen. Lawsuits are costly and most single parents don't have resources to pursue a lawsuit. It's a catch22 businesses are willling to risk.

Raising a child that doesn't have special needs is enough work in itself, multiple that workload by 10 if you have a special needs child, maybe more if they're profoundly challenged.

Say What?

Spoken like a true deadbeat parent. Maybe you missed the part in the writer's message about the dad deliberately not working or hiding income. The mom is busting her tail to do the best she can in extremely trying circumstances. I think she'll make it. It sounds to me like she has courage and conviction.

Nancy, I see you are in Canada. A website that might help you concerning child support is:

http://canada.justice.gc.ca/en/ps/sup/

Check out http://www.freecycle.org/ . There are Canadian sites all over your country and it's pretty amazing what you can get. It's also a great way to give your unused items to someone who can use them. Hopefully you'll be able to get your kids some hockey equipment.

Nancy, your boys have a terrific mom who cares enough about them to keep them in a drug-free environment with self- respect and dignity. I'm guessing you don't have any public assistance because you mentioned medication costs. A website with info: http://singleparents.about.com/od/canada/

Do check out the special education resources in Canada. And keep your chin up. You've got guts and your boys will grow up knowing that their mom was there for them. And don't let the naysayers like the one quoted above get you down. I am so sorry that you had to read such a mean-spirited and unfeeling message - especially during the Christmas season.
