No, you didn't miss something important...I, too, felt like I came in in the middle of the story and had all the same questions you do! this whole situation seems very strange...Dave said his family was "in denial"...they're way beyond denial!! I'd say they're kinda' nutz! wish I could fill in the blanks for you, but we just didn't get all the details...this dr. phil show raised more questions than it gave answers on this one - I hate when that happens!
