I have a black friend who, when given the option of "African American" will check "other" instead and fill in "black." hehehe
Our way of sticking it to the man... When our daughter was born, the hospital gave us the WA state birth certificate form to fill out, and there was no option to include both white and black. I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure "other" wasn't on their either. So our daughter is listed as black, but it's not really accurate. Same with her school registration. The 2000 US Census listed something like 40 different ethnic mixes and all of them were checked-people should have the opportunity to list their actual ethnicity wherever they have to fill out forms!
