Kids should try different things!

Quote From: steph124ny

letting kids try different things? If my daughter wanted to try a pageant, I would let her. I think you have to have balance. She also likes gymnastics and Tae Kwon Do.  If she expresses an interest in something, we let her try it to see if it is for her or not. (Assuming we can afford the interest. I won't be buying a horse anytime soon! LOL! :) )  I think if something is starting to take over your child's life and does not let them have free time, it is time to step back. Any activity that suggests that your child is not good enough the way she is should also be suspect. Just make sure there is balance and everything will be OK.

Right on!

Our 11-yr-old honor student who plays tennis and soccer while volunteering at food pantries came to us about wanting to try modeling. After much research, I found just the right photographer and agency. Modeling is now a part of her busy life (but she must keep up her grades and she cannot concentrate just on modeling).

Modeling is a fun HOBBY for our daughter and me (it's an activity we do together and the $$$ goes into her college fund plus goes to feeding the poor). When things are kept in prospective and priorities are good, hobbies such as modeling and pageants are fine.

Parents are the ones who make the horrible decisions...just like the guest on the stage. There are just as many pageant mothers who DON'T behave that way and who pick the pageants very carefully while making sure the child is having FUN and knows that beauty should not be center stage in anyone's life.
