replies to suicide threat 2

hI I JUST READ YOUR POSTHow old is your son ?because if he is old enough you can't make him stop even if you do duct tape him and take him to the hospital .As far as drugging him you will of course be charged if he is mad at you for keeping him alive and press charges if he wants to.As far as watching him poison himself, you will or could be charged if you let him do it and don't stop him .If he was in the hospital before why didn't they have an evaluation done because even a regular dr.can access him for suicide or even a pyhchiatrist too to see that he is at risk. And if he is well they wouldn't be that stupid and let him out so obviously they didn't do it then .I was wondering why he was put in jail?can't be for trying to committ suicide is it?If thats so how stupid is that government he should have been at least evaluated and maybe put in a mental hospital .i am by no means saying he is a freak i just mean that he might have had a better chance for help.i have posted what we went through with my daughter on the depression boards also but she is now 15 yrs old .i think it might be in the archives though and they can be read at least. How do you keep him alive well it is almost like a drug if tthey are not ready to have help well then they will only try again and if he loses your trust he will try anyway secretly.I have a feeling it is a cry for help obviously because they normally don't say a word unless they want help lke my daughter.she tried but was scared and didn't follow through so we got help for her.As far as him being convincing at the hospital you really should be pushing then and saying no he's not ok and have him evaluated .I f a phychiatrist finds that he is not computant to give a clear answer well they have that power to keep him in and i believe you can sign if you are his next of kin which you would be so did you try that route if you can get him there.I f you have not did you try staging an intervention that could be done too .You would have to find out more either here from DR.Phil by emailing and put as urgent or find out how to from your local health department because they should be able to advise you what approach to take.good luck and keep us posted.later cathy

Thanks for your comments and wishes on both your parts.  My son was hospitalized previously for trying to commit suicide, and had been in a car after chugging a bottle of liquor and taking a gun to his head in a parking lot.  He is already diagnosed with a mental illness, but spent the night in jail and then was taken to the psych ward in the hospital, so they are well aware of what he is capable of.  Unfortunately, he is also very bright and can manipulate people well and convince them to do what he wants.  When he got out, the psychiatrist wanted him in an intensive outpatient treatment, but he convinced her that since he couldn't afford it, the weekly counseling visits would be enough.  So this is where he is now.  And as I said, it is not a cry for help.  He isn't a 15 year old anymore....we have been through that too.  And I do understand the effect being married to someone like this can have on you as well.  My son was married for a short time, and the break up was what finally brought him to the suicide attempt.  But, it wasn't just the fact that the marriage broke up-so don't get me wrong about that....you shouldn't have to live with that-it was how the woman did it and what she did to him in the process.

Anyway, thanks for listening and I would appreciate a prayer or two.
