I think this family is using the Dr. Phil show as a way of publicity.  The mother shows no emotion and acts way out there, but I think she's a real smart cookie who knows how to play the game.  She talks very openly about cutting herself as if she's proud of it and wants everyone to know, like she's looking for attention and this gets her back on the Dr. Phil show each time.  Maybe they're looking for someone to help them with the huge debt they've incurred.  The daughter said it right.."my mom is a drama queen"...
