Hi all.... I'm new to this board and hoping to find some people that understand my situation and tell me if they think its too late for me.

I'm 64 years old... and a great grandmother, but I'm just a beginner with the Dr. Phil weight loss program.  I don't know what my current weight is, but 3 months ago I went to the hospital and weighed in at 388.5!!!  God has been good, because many would have had a heart attack carring all this weight around...... well until about 3 years ago.  Since then, I've become very, very sedintary.  I'm no longer able to walk more than just a few steps.  My legs will hold me, my feet are screaming but what stops me cold is I can't get my breath after just a few steps.  I have been diagnosed with COPD so though I'm on oxygen and inhalers during the day and use a C-Pap at night, I'm not going to see improvement unless I get rid of a LOT of weight.  I'm on the waiting list for Gastric Bypass Surgery in 6-8 months, but I'd like to get rid of some of this prior to doing that and if possibly do well enough that I can continue with a new life without the surgery.

I hope you will get yourself squared away before you become what I am today.

I'd love to have some encouragement if you can offer it.  Any stories of success out there?

Hugs,

Ishi

IT IS NEVER TO LATE TO BETTER YOURSELF!!!  I will tell you right now---I am jealous of you, for being great grandmother.  LOL  I am grandma of three, and would love to be ggma before I leave this world.  LOLnow on  to what you came here for.   I don't usually post to this board, but you post really  made me want to help you.  Don't get me wrong,  only you can do it, but you can.

When I started  ( I didn't do Dr. Phils plan at first).  I weighed 235.  I didn't have as many health problems as you seem to have, but I had High blood pressure,  aching joints ect.  short of breath.  I did go to a Doctor.  I managed to loose a 100 pounds in about a year.  I have managed to maintain it with in three or four pounds.   I would like to  loose about 8 more pounds, but the closer to your goal the harder it gets.

Do you have Dr. Phils book and food guide?  If you do read it and do the work he says do.  Go by the food guide for you meals.  If you want to get a litte quick start go on the Rapid Start Plan.  If you don't have the book, I think there is a place on this site that gives the plan.  If you can't find it let me know and I will see if I can find it.

If I were you I would try to do this on my own with out the surgery.

By the way you said you were 64,  I am ten years older than you, so I know you can do it,  If I can anybody can.

Let me know how it goes.  I will come to the board and check every day.  If there is anything I can do to help you let  me know that to.

Dolores
