I think it's both that we pay too much per gallon for gas and that companies rip us off because they can. They know that gas will always be demanded. I hate the whole supply/demand circumstances because there is such a high demand for gas which does allow the suppliers to raise the price in order to make a larger profit.  

There is no reason why the gas prices should be this high. I feel sorry for the Europeans and other areas that have paid high gas prices for years. Gas/oil should not be that expensive. There is plenty of it around the world. People are just being too greedy. I agree with you when you stated "The incredible greed, cynicism and self-interest of these bloodsuckers appears to be boundless".
