SO TRUE

Quote From: amynewtson

Addiction hits almsot every family. This young man is ill. Yes, he can help himself, but how many of you know diabetics that are destroying themselves with the food they eat? How many of you are smokers or love one? Addicts are sometimes addicts before they ever try their DOC. They are born that way. They are lacking something or have been abused as children. Think of your own addictions (happy hour?) before you criticize this family. How far would you go to help your own son?
Very true statements!  I think every family has an addict or two in it--whether it be the computer, animals, yard work, play stations etc.  They harm your body as well as do the drugs.  The drugs more I will have to say but addiction still the same.  The addict is lacking on some chemical in the brain.  I don't think if you have been abused as a child you necessarily have an addict.  And yes I would go around the world to help my son's if I had to.

Drug Addiction is not a regular "DISEASE"

Addicts before they are born?  BULL

This PC hogwash will not help addicts. Addicts have to first try the drugs and have the type of personality that wants to committ a crime. Yes, some are kids and kids make dumb choices. And some of those kids get addicted. But that has NOTHING to do with birth.

We are all born beautiful, innocent slates and Gift's from God. What we do with our bodies may have something to do with our childhood years (lousy parenting, low self esteem, being a thrill seeker, etc), but that doesn't excuse the individual of his poor CHOICE.

I worked with drug addicts. I worked with abused children.  Neither problem started at birth. And going to "happy hour' doesn't make one an addict. I drink ONE drink yearly and it's at a Happy Hour. I go to a sports pub with my family every Friday night, but I make the CHOICE to drink Diet Coke.

Families must be disected ("criticized") in order for other to learn from their mistakes. No family is perfect, but some help set their children up for addiction. Brandon's family make HUGE mistakes...giving him everything, allowing him to "run" as he wished and then enabling his drug habit once they knew he had it. They needed to be exposed. Now they will perhaps work on fixing themselves so they can help Brandon once he is released. God bless them all, but stop trying to make Brandon and his family VICTIMS; that won't allow them to see that they are capable of beating this addcition!

Couldn't agree more, but how much influence does a family have?

Go look in my profile, look at my baby pictures, one at 4 months, one at 6 months, just two of many......with a beer bottle in my mouth.  Yes, addiction may very well be in the genes, but regardless, the very beginning does matter.  I'm sure many have very, very similar pictures.

I hope Brandon will find his way before the drug finds it for him.
