i'm 16 and i go on myspace and talk.thewb.com i chat on the internet with strangers i don't know, i think the show will be helpful to me

I'm sure that this show is going to be very interesting and informative.  I wish more young people would watch and please tell your friends to watch it too ok?  You know the best way to protect yourself is to know what means is being used to trick young women such as yourself.  This doesn't end in your teens but through to adulthood.  Who would have ever guessed that you could be anywhere and have someone slip something into a drink that renders you unconsious?  You don't even have to be at a bar drinking alcohol but you could be at a party with a bottle of water and they'll slip something into it.  This was uncovered a good few years back and you've probably already heard all that, but my point is that every time we hear about something and we're unguard for it something new comes into use.

The latest I'd heard about "myspace" is that even if you don't put your whole name on there or what town you're in that because of all the "friends you have listed" they may mention things not realizing that they're giving away where you all go to school and live.  So say you and a girlfriend named Jane are on the wildcat cheeryleading squad & then through janes online list of friends others mention the school name.  If the school has a web site and a perv looks it up and there's a current list of names for the cheerleaders now that perv has your picture and may be able to wait and watch for you after school etc.  I hear they really "prey" on the young women.  If you're already talking to strangers you have to be real careful how much info you give out if you're chating with them.  Please don't meet anyone alone ok?

Please be careful – I was raped by an internet predator at the age of 14 – he turned out to be 40 – I thought he was 28 – it can happen to anyone…

Please be careful…

TALK TO YOUR PARENTS

Where are you parents? Tell them what you are doing and tell them that you want to know they care by asking about your day and your daily activities. I just don't get it; why are parents so out-of-touch with their children. Perhaps because I am a former high school teacher AND parole officer that I know just how important it is to be aware of my children's activities....but WAKE UP PARENTS and start being involved in your child'slife!!!

At 16, you are now aware of the dangers of posting on-line. Showing any photo on-line of yourself is a big NO-NO. These predators are bright and manipulative. I guarantee they can get enough info out of you (without you even knowing) to track you down and approach you.

Find other ways to entertain yourself. There are computer games, e-mail FRIENDS (you know), take walks with friends, go out with friends to safer places, get involved in a church group, get involved in school clubs and sports, etc.

PLEASE tell your mom about the show and even have her read the message board. Sadly, some kids are forced to educate their parents! God bless you, Kiddo, and stay safe.
