I was at the taping of the "tattoo" show, and the reason Dr.Phil wore 4 different suits on the show that was broadcast is because it was a combination of 4 separate shows. Usually Dr.Phil tapes one entire show in one sitting. Sometimes certain segments aren't appropriate for broadcast. For example, if a guest manages to fool everyone just to get on the Dr.Phil show, it becomes obvious that they have no intention of changing their behavior. Remember, you can't change what you don't acknowledge; or in this case you can't change something that doesn't exist. Dr.Phil is one sharp cookie & it doesn't take him long to spot a phony. He gets them "off his stage" as quickly as possible & moves on to the next guest. This segment ends up on the cutting room floor. Unfortunately it appears to me that this has happened on approximately 4 shows, and it's a shame because otherwise they are perfectly good shows. So rather than trash can 4 entire shows, Dr.Phil has chosen to piece the good segments into 1 special show.
Other times, Dr.Phil has taped an extra segment, after taping 1 full show, with the same audience so that it can be spliced into another show that is short by 1 segment.
I've also seen him tape part of 1 show, that will be added to a later recording, because the guest wasn't available for taping on the same day as the rest of the guests. But in that instance he usually wears the same suit for continuity.
So, how do I know about all these little tidbits? Over 4 seasons I've been present at 23 tapings so far. No, you won't see me, because I'm not really photogenic. And his audience IS NOT paid. Some people go golfing or bowling, some people play football, basketball, baseball & TENNIS. Others play bridge or canasta. I go to the Dr.Phil show. No, I'm not a stalker. I just like to go to his show, just like other people go to the movies or the opera. You can go to Dr.Phil's show once every 6 weeks. Getting tickets is easy & I make a whole day out of it. They tape 2 shows per day. I always go to the morning show. If I'm lucky, I get to stay for the second show. I take a vacation day off from work so I can pay attention to the day's topic without having to worry about getting back to the office. I live only 35 miles away from the studio, so that's a plus. I'd love to go to Oprah's show, but the distance is too far. Besides, I love Dr.Phil better (sorry Oprah, I do love you too. So move to California already girlfriend!!).
