I'm not a fan of long distance online dating. I don't feel that you get a true sense of who the person is if you don't see them at least on a weekly basis. I did meet my husband of 4 years online but we only lived 20 miles apart and worked in the same city.
I would suggest that you converse with someone local so you can eventually meet them in person for coffee. Keep your eyes and ears open for potential pitfalls. Use your head and gut instinct, not your heart. Meet in a public place. Say you own a big dog and know how to use a gun. If you meet Mr. Right, he will forgive you those little white lies because they are for your safety. Talk to and meet several men at once, so you don't romanticize feelings on just 1 person who may not deserve your interest. Don't give your heart until the man earns your love and you feel totally comfortable with him.
