There is indeed no cure...only management, kind of like alcohol addiciton. The problem is, a relapse with alcohol may produce anything from a hangover to a missed day of work, and rarely does it involve physical harm to another. (Although, I also believe that repeat drunk drivers should be locked up without a chance of ever driving again either.) But a relapse by a molester permanently affects the life of a child. It's just not an acceptable risk in my view. I think all convicted molesters should be chemically castrated when they get out of prison. This is one instance where second chances are too risky. And the statistics prove that a seriously overwhelming majority reoffend. Yes, there may be a handful that repent and never offend again....good for them. I would hope that even they would understand the magnitude of this situation and OFFER to be chemically castrated, never have contact with a minor, never live close to a school or playground, etc. Without that level of willingness to forever be controlled and watched like a hawk, I don't believe they are truly remorseful or changed. All human beings are born worthwhile, but that's not a given anymore when you are a grown adult. Your actions and deeds dictate your worth as you age. There has to be a point where we deem humans as no longer worthwhile to society, and repeat molesters are definitely a good place to start!
