Tools to help avoid this scam

Quote From: karleen345

I find it amazing that an intellegent woman can be taken in by a con artist, myself included. In 1978 I re-met an old friend and let myself believe his line of B.S. I was so embarassed  that I allowed myself to get into that mess. This guy took me for anything and everything he could find while I was at work. I came home to find almost everything was gone, including my car! When he was late picking me up from work I knew what had happened and I prayed for myself to be wrong, but I knew in my heart that I was not wrong. Since then I"ve adopted a quote but can't remember whos quote is is. Anyway I quote "Isn't it strange that a woman can fake an orgasan, but a man can fake an entire relationship!" I don't date anymore because I've found that any man that is interested in me is only interested in what he can take from me.

Another website that this is going on at is: www.penpals.net
Many of the people who post there are aware of it, but some aren't. Not everyone who goes to these sites are wanting "dates" I have several really nice girl friends and we discuss daytime TV. But I'm 100% careful about giving out any information. One lady told me she was flooded with mail from Nigeria, Africa and the like. She put USA only, didn't matter. They don't care. They go up and down and target anyone who is gullible enough to fall for it. She posted 3 different ads under 3 different ladies and guess what? The same man fell in "love" with her and yep, wanted funds. It is a scam and I feel those who can't see it either don't care or are completely blinded by needing that kind of attention. Never give your money to someone you don't know. Often, don't give your money to someone you DO know.
But, this site is notorious for this happening.
And as I said, it isn't just for dating. Some folks really Do just want to talk and are retired, bored, disabled. There are some nice people out there but...unfortunately, this is the type of thing that can come back to bite  you know where. There is also a website that is an IP locator. That is, if you show your headers in  your email, you see the sender's IP address (a number) You can then take that number and find a geographical location anywhere in the world. You will know, where that person is from. You may be surprised to find out someone is not from Africa, or Nigeria, but New York or right here. It is another means to protect yourself.

I sincerely hope some of this helps someone avoid a huge mistake. Don't get blind-sighted!!!

09/28 Love Scams?

Help me out here ladies.  How does this happen?  How do you turn into people who have zero self worth?  How do you allow yourself to be cast in the roll of victim in this manner?  Where are your full lives? Where are your interests, outside of an overwhelming desperate craving for attention from a man, ANY man, even a pretend one? Even one who asks you for money?  FOR MONEY?  Come ON.  No self respecting man would ever ask or take money or anything else from a woman that he even has a human relationship with, let alone a cyber one!  Honorable men do not behave in this manner. You must know this on some level.  How did you become such an empty shell?  Don't you want MORE in your life than this?  Don't you want to have a more meaningful existence than this?

You could be the most intelligent person in the world, but if you went into a jungle without a guide, a guidebook, proper attire, and a few clues about the place and its dangers, you would probably not last very long.

The scammers are predators, we are their prey, and the internet is a jungle.  They think they have a right to take our money from us and they do not care about our feelings. They stalk us deliberately and take advantage of our good natures. They never get far with the mean, the stingy, the hard-hearted, etc, who see right through them, instead they play havoc with the soft-hearted, the generous natured, and the polite people, who haven't learned the hazards of the internet.
