Quote From: kelseym127I'm extremely obese and I can't seem to lose any weight. I'm a 13-year-old girl and I weight 119 pounds. I've been trying to lose weight for a few months, and I can't get anywhere below 119. No matter how much I try, nothing ever changes.
I have a feeling that you may FEEL extremely obese but in reality, you're not. To be obese at 119 lbs, you would have to be well under 5' tall. "Ideal body weight" is considered to 5'=100 lbs +/- 10%. In other words, the range would be 90-110 lbs. However, if your usual weight is outside the guide does not mean that you have a weight problem. If your body is maintaining at 119 lbs, it may mean that this is your "Ideal".
I worked for years in management in health care food & nutrition services. We finally learned that if a person weighed 200 lbs her entire life, who are we to try and change it? Obviously her body was telling her that if she consistently maintained that weight, it was her ideal weight. I'm concerned that you feel this way as it can be a sign of an eating disorder or a distorted body image. Please see your school counselor to determine if you have a weight or a body image issue. I think that you'll feel better just knowing what your issue really is. Please don't give up on yourself.
At 13, I was 5'11" and 190 lbs. I felt HUGE because I was the largest girl in my class. In reality, my "ideal" would have been about 170 lbs because of my large frame so I really wasn't that far off. I'd give anything to weigh that "little" now! :)
