Violence in School
Quote From: llilfarfa I am a teacher in an alternative school...aka where all the drug dealing expelled children go. Our school is one hallway, and the top half of all the walls are windows. We can not lock our doors from the inside of our rooms, we have to go into the one hallway to do so. We do not have a PA system in our school either. Our front door is wide open, not locked, and does not open into any kind of foyer. We do, however, have cameras in the classrooms, so it will be filmed when we are all blown away. My room is one of 2 that has an outside door. Let me make this statement perfectly clear, I WIlLL NOT, under any circumstance, volunteer to take a bullet for a student. If I can crawl my little body out that door in the case of a shooter, I will do so and run for help. Any student who chooses to follow is more than welcome. I was told by a fellow teacher that I didn't belong in the classroom because I would not die for a student. I didn't sign up to be a hero by dying on the job, if I wanted that risk I would be a firefighter or a cop (God bless everyone of them). I am here to educate, not to guard at all cost. Most teachers I know feel the exact same way I do. (It has been a hot topic in recent weeks). As for my own children, I would hope a teacher would be willing to take a bullet for them, but I would not expect them to. However, that is not going to be an issue, because my children will be homeschooled. Homeschooling is a wonderful thing, I have several friends who homeschoola nd their children do awesome and have absolutely no issues. I have chosen to send my children to Christian private for now, of course they are still young, my oldest is in kindergarten and she loves her school and i love it. It certainly is a whole differnet atmosphere then the public setting and I bleieve much more safer. I know anything can happen to any one, no one is exempteed from tragedy but at the same time, I think we as parents owe it to our children to keep them as safe as possible and we are responsible for making sure they get the best education possible and that is my goal and I certainly do not want to be sitting at home wondering if my daughteris gonna come home over a tragedy that could happen in her school and I just don't have the peace when it comes to the public system, sad but true.
