10/11 One Paycheck Away
Quote From: flrat69I know what you mean. The systems we have in place to help those who need it do get abused. My favorites are the people who feel it's time to go sign up for their "crazy check" (SSI). I just don't want to lump too many people together and end up punishing the desrving. I think you agree with that. we have alot of people on SSI in my town and I'm sorry to say they're not encouraged to get off. Case in point, a close friend was in a state hosp. 10 years ago they gave her her "crazy check" at the time she needed it. Years latter she wants to go to work pt.(hadn't worked in how long?) So, I got her a job for few hours a week where I work and worked on her getting a license. Figured her check would be cut- what $1 for every $3 she makes. Okay, so, we figured she'd get back into the rythym of working, learn to drive, go from there (get more hours, another job whatever.) The Govt. comes along and says "if you continue to work, you won't get a check" She was working 10 hours a week after not working for 8 years and being in the hosp. 'cause she flipped out at work due to stress. Luckily, I was able to help her find a training program ran by Goodwill that works around meds. restrictions and other health restictions and she's since gone back full time and got her license. You'd think that S.S. could've done that. I do that alot in my town (connect people I seem to be the go to person) but I do it 'cause I love people. The people at S.S. and Welfare get paid. What's up with that?
