Love is tolerant?

Quote From: dieheer

I don't think I have to accept what someone does, I can like or love people but hate what they do, and I don't think thats wrong.

we all have belief systems, and should respect the other person whether we agree with them or not, Ive heard it this way..."love the sinner not the sin"

now this don't mean everything you disagree with is a sin!  its the do unto others as you want them to do unto you attitude, and its responsibility...personal responsibility in the end.

I really don't understand why Christians are labeled mean and hateful when they say the homosexual lifestyle is wrong. I agree that not accepting someone's behavior doesn't mean you hate them. Of course, there are Christians who act like jerks and go over the line resorting to namecalling, insults and downright cruelty, but please don't try to define Christianity by these misdeeds.

If you read carefully the stories of Jesus in the Bible, you will see that Jesus' love was not a tolerant love. Instead, Jesus loves people the way they are, but loves them too much to let them stay that way. After an encounter with Jesus, people's lives were changed forever. Take for example, Mary Magdalene. After Jesus saved her from being stoned to death, He did not tell her "Go back to your lovers now. "No, He said "Go and sin no more." She understood her lifestyle was sinful and didn't try to justify it to Him.

It seems to me that gays and lesbians automatically assume that Christians are hateful and intolerant. I know a few wonderful people who are living in a gay or lesbian relationship and I would like to be their friend. But when they know I don't accept their lifestyle they close the door to our friendship--not me. I guess they are afraid I will try to talk them out of their lifestyle, which I might. However, they do not hesitate to try to convince me that unless I accept their homosexuality I am mean and hateful. I don't think it is fair to be labeled hateful for standing by the moral standards taught in the Bible.
