I know she is 18, but I teach 14 year olds that are more mature than she is! Mom & Dad should have put their feet down long ago.
I remember a time when I WAS 19-20 years old - my mother tried desperately to control MY life - and I resented her control. I finally had enough and left - but, then, my mother was an alcholic child abusive parent. Each of my sisters and I broke free from her by her beating the hell of us to the point that we could not stand it anymore. I had a lot of experience when I was 19 years old - I was still, for all the abuse, a very naive young woman - but, I was independent, free spirited and unafraid. Yes, she is a young woman with her whole future and life ahead of her - but, she will learn and experience what she is supposed to in due time. I do not feel that it is anybody's business to make this call. AS for SanJay's friend Michael - I see a really gree-eyed monster here - me thinks that he is jealous that his friend was able to catch the attention of someone like her while he - well, how much money does HE have???? He is a jealous, moronic bore!!! And, to humilate that young woman the way that he did - well, if I had been in the audience - I would have defended the young woman and called a spade a spade. What about Demi-Moore and her young husband Ashton? What about Susan Saradon and her younger husband Tim Robbins (once this was very controversal) Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, I myself knew a couple where she was 19 years old and he was 19 years older - they stayed together til he died in a car crash. Yes, they had problems, but the love was strong enough. So, I am very surprised at you, as a teacher, would be soooo closed minded. You cannot judge anyone - it is not YOUR right. All you can do is wish them well and hope that things turn out well for both.
