11/23 Love Scams?
Quote From: ceildh1OMG I am sorry to offend you, if indeed I did, and it is a great idea to get the message out to people, and the fact you deal in CASH and Money Orders, smart idea.
You are too right, it is VERY easy to get your information, whether you want it to get out or not.
By NOT agrreing to his requests, and by not speaking to him, you have protected yourself, and by speaking up, you've warned others, but it will depend on what they do with the information
my "friend" is still lurking out there - finally emailed me after 3 days of not hearing from him for several days...his excuse? his mom got really ill and he had to meet with her right away and did not have time to email me or tell me what was happening...he is still wanting to talk - obviously...i just avoid the screenname he knows (he is the only one i have talked to on that in a while anyways)...i told those few that know me under that screenname not to use it any more so i can just not deal with him...i also called the Fraud department of my local city...there is nothing they can do - big surprise there...they said that if this person is somewhere other than the county in which i live, even if he does scam others, they have no jurisdiction and nothing can be done...they're only "advice" was that if i was worried due to the strange "coincidences" that have been happening with my name and address about someone trying to steal my identity is to put a "Fraud Alert" on my credit reports - even that doesn't stop anyone from doing anything, just simply protects one from being responsible if someone gets credit in my name after the Alert has been put there...basically, we are all on our own - even if we are scammed...i know there are many people out there who are easily persuaded to send money, attempt to cash checks or money orders, and even open bank accounts that others request of them...i may be looking for someone in my life, but i will never be so desperate as to think that type of situation would be the answer...hopefully others do at least think about what is being asked of them before they act upon the request...like you said, it will depend on what they do with the information they have been given.
