11/24 Great School Debate

Quote From: purplepenny

I see...you want to shelter you kids from anything that you personally oppose instead of exposing them to realities that they WILL eventually encounter as adults.

And, really, you think that gay people shouldn't be allowed to teach children?!??!?! That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

The poster is homeschooling for religious reasons and that is a valid reason.  Whether or not you agree with her reasons is no reason to ridicule.

I don't ridicule those who choose school, I don't chastise the good teachers stuck in a bad system.

I personally don't homeschool for religious reasons but I support her right to do so.  Which, I think, is the bottom line for this debate.  Homeschooling is legal in all 50 states, and parents have the right to educate their children as they choose.  We can work together to try to understand each others reasons, but we'll never all agree, we'll never all homeschool the same way, but we can respect each others choices.  All of the parents here on this board have their kids' best interests at heart.  None of us would be in our positions if we felt we were harming our children and their futures.

I understand those who want to try to understand radical unschooling, and believe me, I (and other radical and not-so-radical unschoolers have heard all of the arguments before.  Trust me on that. :))  But it's not a simple concept to grasp.  It requires a whole paradigm shift, unlike homeschooling that uses a curriculum, or basically brings school home.

NO people that chose to live an alternative life style and are gay, have no business teaching young children.  Children are very impressionable when a teacher is acting as a role model and they walk around shaking hips, and fling the hand in the gay talk, it is an impression that it is putting on young children.  When my 5 year old comes home with the same mannerism as hisgay teacher, yes I have a very big problem with that.  Yes, I am sheltering my children thank the Lord that someone is.  When you bring up a child in Christ when he is older he will not depart from it.  I know the path that my children will walk when they are older, it is the path that my husband, my shelf, and my Lord has chosen for them. I am not going to teach my children that the gay lifestyle is acceptable for it is not, I will not teach my children that evolution is true, for it is not.  I will teach my children exactly what is taught in the Bible.  I'm not going to argue with God, are you?

In this day and age, there is NOTHING wrong with wanting to shelter your children until the time is right for them. The word being "them". Not when sally sue finds out and spreads it around school. I dont want my child learning sex from a kid at school in the bathroom because he is being molested by his father/mother/brother/aunt/uncle, or from a kid who is allowed to watch sexually explicit movies at 10. I am the person that says when, where, and how that should occur. I dont want my kids going to school learning from other kids that drugs are cool, what they are, and how they are used. I dont want my kids to think its so important to have a boyfriend/girlfriend at 10 and if you dont that dictacts who you are. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sheltering our kids. Our kids would benefit from being innocent children for a few extra years these days.
