you sound very judgemental with that one little paragraph.  I have a biological son and 2 adopted daughters.  I could not have any other children and yes, "I DID CHOOSE TO ADOPT".  How can you know what is involved in the choices people make.  For us, we had the choice to not adopt and have 1 child, adopt and have more children, or try infertility treatments to have more biological children.  Your statement makes it sound like you think adoptive parents are selfish!  They are just like anyone else - they want children.  I adopted from China and most people tell me how much they admire me and how wonderful it was that we did this.  My response is that I adopted because I wanted a child just like everyone else.  I was not doing some heroic deed by giving a child a home.  If I was selfish I would take the credit they try to give me and run with it.  Watch how you phrase things without too much explanation.  Someday you may say that and a young adopted child or teen may hear you and start to think that maybe their parents would give them back if they got pregnant or had other options.  I can tell you that my adopted children are completely loved and wanted as much as my biological son.  The process and emotions we went through to have our daughters was so much larger and emotional than our son and just filled our hearts up with love for them all.

People like you make me mad!!!  My husband and I could not have any children of our own so we had a CHOICE of either not having any children or adopting.  (Yes, we could have done the IVF route but that is a different story.)  And yes, adoption is a choice that every couple makes -- just like people who can conceive having a choice of conceiving and having children or not conceiving and not having children.  My daughter is still my daughter no matter what happens.  And, to top it off, she is the lucky one -- she has two sets of parents, the set who gave her life and the set that is living her life with her.  It sure beats the rest of us who only have one set of parents!!

 Though I can possibly have children through invitro fertilization I have chosen to build my family through adoption. This is certainly a choice. I know of those who desperately wanted children but could not bring themselves to feel like a child that was not of thier body could be as precious to them as one they had given birth to. But for me, choosing adoption is giving up on a dream of going through the process of bringing a life into this world and releasing that desire. It is choosing to take a child not of my body and make it a child of my heart. Not everyone can do that. Some choose to remain childless. It is still a  choice.

I think your previous comment is sort of rude.................... Adoption is a CHOICE FOR EVERYONE, whether you can have children or not.  Stating that people who CAN have kids that choose to adopt are UNSELFISH, and people that CAN'T have kids have no other option is NOT true.  They still CHOOSE to adopt, they could just go without children, and are you trying to say that those of us who CAN'T have children ARE SELFISH because we'd rather have children of our own???  How many children do you have??? How many children have you adopted???  Adoption can be a VERY expensive process, so not everyone can take that route even if they want to!!!

I couldn't agree with you more!  It 's like..."oh well we can't have our own natural child so we will just SETTLE for adopting one!
