11/24 Great School Debate

Quote From: purplepenny

What if your kids don't have the luxury of a self employment?

What I am trying to get at here is that, and I am SURE you do, cause you seem like a very caring mother (father? sorry I didn't catch your sex yet) make sure they understand that in the adult world people cannot solve their problems, depressions and heartbreaks by zoning out of life for a week.
Most non-teachers also don't have summer vacations, but we allow kids to be kids and enjoy that, right?  When my kids have ever spent too much time in fron tof the TV, they've learned just how boring it is and commented just how much time they waste doing it...they aren't adults yet, so we don't necessarily have to throw the adult world at them when they are young and hurting over something.

I'm their mother.

But we all have choices in life.  If I had a regular job with a boss, I could take vacation time, if i had it.  I might be able to take unpaid time off.  And if I really felt my mental health and/or personal needs to veg were that necessary I could even quit my job.  Rash, yes, but it is still a choice.

We all have choices.

Sometimes as adults we have other ways to get our needs met.  Kids need the safety and security of their family.
