11/24 Great School Debate

What a bitter picture of the real world you are painting for them. Shame on you.

How can a homeschooler truly start thier own successful business without higher education and an understanding of the business world? What a pity, what a real pity....

My husband is without a higher education and has a very successful business he started. I've known many smart people with a college degree who fail miserably when they start their own business. I'm sorry, how to run a business can not be taught from a book. The skills you might need ie.. CPA, law, etc. but not the day in and out side of business that comes by digging in and getting your hands dirty. Yeah, you need good math skills to run a business and you need to be able to read (early elementary skills). Most successful businesses hire a good bookeeper, we did, not because we couldn't do it anymore but it just isn't profitable for us to spend our time doing it at this point. And our bookkeeper and accountant enjoy the reading the IRS legal codes I personally don't. I have nothing against higher education but don't assume that a person has to flip burgers their whole life because they don't have it, look around and you will realize many people, that even the wealthy pay good money to, do not have a college degree.

If you haven't already go read my post "I am a living example".  Your not understanding how a homeschooler can start their own successful business without a higher education shows that you do not understand home/unschooling at all.  As well as that your understanding of higher education can only include accredited colleges.  What the homeschooler/unschooler will do is read and study the topic that is interesting to them until they are an expert in it.  If that includes going to college, they will.  But there are many courses of study outside of college that you could call “higher education”.  Your assumption is that college is the only place to learn.  ALL entrepreneurs, even the ones who attended college have had mentors.  As for the ones who never attended college, they learned everything they needed to know from their mentor.  For further knowledge and learning on the topic I suggest starting with my reading list on the other post.  Then it will not be such a quandary to you.  Here are the most relevant titles to your particular concern.  Really, to understand and have a good debate, you have to understand the “other side”.

If You Want to Be Rich & Happy: Don't Go to School by Robert T. Kiyosaki

Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden curriculum of Public Schooling by John Taylor Gatto

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

I realize that most people who read this post will not read these, but those who are truly interested will.  Therein shall we know who is sincere.
