I just dont understand how come they let kids rule the schools nowdays.    When i was in school if you got into trouble you had to pay for it.   Now the kids get smacked on the hands and turned loose to do what they want, say what they want, and dont ever have to pay for the conciquences of their mouths.    There is no respect for the teachers or any of the staff half the time, because they dont know how to show respect.    Kids now days has no respect for their elders or even for themselves.    I believe the whole problem started when the lady stuck her nose in and told them to take prayer out of school.      I hope the teacher that is having problems will stick it out and i hope she takes the kids and their parents to court for defimation of character.     You know what we do in our past should stay in our past.     Did God not forgive us of our transgressions and sins.     Like the good book says " Judge not lest ye be judged"

I'm from the old school and I apalled by the action of some students today.  Teachers need to take back the schools and have zero tolerance for unacceptable behavior. Students need to be taught from the start that room for inappropriate behavior and that there will be serious consequences.  I believe teachers need to be fair and not provoke a situation and care about thier students.  Stop catering to unruly behavior.  As adults we have no one to blame but ourselves.  Administrators need to take action and move toward resolving issues.  Doing so

early on in a childs development should minimize potential problems.  When I was in school

there was respect regardless if you cared for the teacher and parents need to support the teachers.

when i were in school the principle would paddle our butts for miss behaving, we never liked to have to go to the principals office, now kids see it as a break from class, as far as a kid showing the teacher respect it must come from the way these children arnt being raised, when i were a child if i were to say{ yeah-no-what } to any adult i would get backhanded in the mouth, parents allow there children to show disrespect to them at home so the kids arnt going to be any differnt away from home, when i said yeah it better be followed with a prompt sir as well as yes sir or yes mamm no mamm and as far as the what word it wasnt used period to a adult as that word yeah to a adult would= ass woopin big time,

In Defense of the Kids........

In defense of the kids these days, they have much more to deal with, usually, starting at home.

Have you ever read some of these childcare books ? "Don't trust your instincts " seems to be a big thing, trust the book, whichever one happens to appeal to you the most, so unlike even my parents in the seventies and eighties who depended on their instincts and parented  us, this days we are told that is WRONG, and the book will tell all, parents become confused about what top do and the conflicting advice and "evidence" we are innundated with is incredible.

Children are told as early as kindergarten that if Mommy or Daddy touches you in a way you don't like, tell us and we will have CPS or Social Services come see what's going on, even a teacher can get in trouble for patting a student on the back for a "Good Job".

Parents have given their power away, why I don't know, but we did.

Kids are coming from more broken homes now than EVER, Mom and Dad are BOTH working to make ends meet, it's NOT always a CHOICE whether or not to stay home now, and it makes it even harder for parents to keep a close eye on their kids, now kids being kids, especially teens, think back to that time, if you don't keep on top of things well we can a figure out where that can go.

There are kids who are going home to Mom or Dad passed out drunk or stoned on the couch, or Mom and Dad being "TOO BUSY" to talk give the kid some money and snd them on their way.

There are kids being badly abused at home, and lash out at ANY authority figure that they KNOW can't touch them.

Parents do have to take back their power with their kids, I agree, but where is the line ?  What constitutes abuse and what constitutes discipline, I've heard some saying that GROUNDING a kid is abusive, what is that all about ?

When Brittany Spears and Christina Aguleria  (?) have become our children's role models, or those horrid Bratz dolls that advocate being a fashionista instead of smarter than the boys, or how about the sports stars that have been charged for drug possetion or those rappers that glorify gun violence or the rock stars ( Marilyn Manson comes to mind) that glorify the evil in the world, we were in trouble.

Parents allowing their daughters  to go to school dressed like hookers in the name of fashion and freedom ? Give me a break. Or allowing their sons to walk around with their underwear hanging out, how about letting your teen get tattoos and body piercings whether you like it or not?

Did these parents LISTEN to that young woman last week ? She wanted to hear the word "NO" she wanted limits, children NEED them, so we as parents have to STEP UP and take our power back, I truly belive the really rotten kids are the MINORITY,lets start focussing on the MAJORITY of kids who might be just lost and confused, a lot like us parents at times.

To put it simply. Parents sue & press charges when teachers punish. It's happened enough to scare the system into permissiveness. How many parents complain about school being so "lock-down" & "no tolerance" yet are the first to go after the teacher when the reprimand a student?

On behalf of myself and other teenagers, not ALL teenagers have "no respect for their elders or even for themselves" ,"because they dont know how to show respect.", etc. I think that you would be extremly surprised at how considerate, polite, mature, and RESPECTFUL teenagers are. Yes, there are a small few that are rude, immature, and disrepectful, but their actions should not be made into a generalization for ALL teens. Teens are much like adults, we all have busy lives. Some of us teens have busier lives than most adults! You would be surprised by all the moral decisions that we have to make on a daily basis. The expectations that adults, parents, family, friends, peers, colleges, and even ourselves are set so high, that when even the littlest mistake is made, we get torn down for "not trying hard enough" or "not being good enough" or "not up to standards" etc. Face it, nobody is alike. No teens are the same, by any strectch of the imagination.  Some teens may lash out or disobey rules because they want attention, because they are not getting it anywhere else. Maybe they are really stressed out. There are so many factors that go into the reasons why we behave the way we do, and i dont think that any adult can say that they haven't gotten angry, lost their tempers, or broke some rules in their adult life. You have probably broken rules yourself, probably even some at your workplace. We do pay for our consequences, for some of us it just takes us longer to realize our mistakes to learn from them. We pay for them with our grades, our social lives, whether or not we get into the college of our choice, we pay for them at home. For me, I have a HUGE guilty concious. So if i do something wrong, i feel it. I feel literal pain for what i did, and it doesnt go away for a long time, depending on what it is that i did. Some people may have bottled up emotions and have no other way to release them. Yes, i agree that some punishments are not harsh enough. I mean, AIA? So i've never been there myself, but seriously. Going to a trailor outside doing work you probably would have had to do anyway? They're probably just talking to people there anyway. In many ways, including the way you responded about how teens have no respect etc etc, i find to be disrespectful to the teenagers! We all need respect, its not all for the elderly.  Personally, i dont know what prayer in school has to do with any of it. Just because schools dont tell you that its time for prayer or whatever, really has an effect on our respect and behaivoir. There still is prayer in schools, i see it everyday! During the moment of silence, before a big game or test, at FCA meetings, its every where. Just because it's not publically announced doesnt mean that it is completly removed from schools. Believe me, it is there. Again, you would be surprised at how much faith is in schools. Not just christian faith, but faith of all kinds.

I hope that I did not come off as "disrepectful", and i hope that i have changed your views on teenagers because i can assure you, not all teens are the way you described. Most i would say, are the complete opposite. While while we're speaking in generalities, most are VERY polite and respectful. Please just be more considerate of people when talking about them, because in this situation anyway, someone has been offended by such cruel(okay, maybe thats a stronger word than i was looking for, but it will get the point across anyway) generalization. Thank you.

P.S. ~ see? respectful teenager! Noooo....who woulda' thunk it? =)
There is alot more to people than what you would think.

I agree totally.  I work in the school system and from elementary school on, kids are let behave any way they feel.  Teachers get absolutely no respect and there is no consequence for misbehavior.  This teacher should not back down to the pressure of the parents or from Dr. Phil for that matter.  You can't tell me these kids didn't know they were doing something wrong when they posted on the website.  Shame on Dr. Phil for even hinting that this woman should reconsider her decision to take them to court.
