Before becoming a stay-at-home mom I taught middle school and let me tell you, teachers are not always the best role models while they are teaching! Your past has nothing to do with what kind of teacher you are in the classroom. Teachers are human beings and people tend not to acknowledge that! What we do in our personal lives is not who we are when we are teaching your children. We get ridiculed for going out on a Friday night, for things we did before we were teachers, for every mistake we could possibly make and those things that are just part of everyone else's life. I undersatand that teaching is an important job. It runs a very close second to parenting and often is parenting. If a teacher's performance is superior int eh classroom, what they do at home or have done in the past is of no relevance. Teaching is stressful enough without having to worry about every single decision you make in your personal life.
