Quote From: itsjustlife22I quit smoking when I found out that I was pregnant - my daughter is a little over 3 weeks old now and I am just DYING for a cigarette. I had maybe 3 cigarettes while I was pregnant and am trying very hard to stay away from cigarettes. I know it sounds silly but there are a lot of things that have helped me not have a cigarette. First of all I live in Wisconsin and it's too cold outside to comfortably enjoy a cigarette. Second, I am a single mom and could really use the extra 4 dollars a pack to put towards any needs my daughter has. Third, when I am stressed out and am most tempted to reach for a cigarette I walk around my house and find other things to do to keep my mind off of it. Sitting still or watching TV makes me just crave cigarettes more and more. I often clean things or spend time with my daughter or on the phone to get away from the cravings. I also told my friends who smoke that I am not going to smoke again so they try not to smoke when I am around, or at lesat don't invite me out for a cigarette or make it obvious that that's what they are doing. I also suggest physical activity and avoiding places that allow smoking, especially places where alcohol is served. If you and your spouse are smoking make some kind of pact or deal. Or take money that would have been spent on cigarettes and save it up and then do something fun with it. You'll be surprised.
Way to go !!!!!! You are to be commended for being so strong in a pretty stressful stage in your life. The advice you are giving others is wonderful. I wish you and your daughter the very best. One little suggestion when you want a cigarette when watching TV or on the phone (that was my biggie, on the phone and a cigarette) is to do breathing exercisers. Your lungs were used to doing the extra inhaling and exhaling. For me when things get a little stressful. A couple of deep breaths and slowing exhaling just like you are smoking, has a real calming effect. Wish you the best and keep us posted.
