I totally agree with you

I just finished watching the Dr. Phil show and as I usually like his shows, today I was very upset. Let me explain. I truly believe that the Toys for tots is an awesome organization and I was glad to contribute this year, however how can they justify giving the audience today all that they did? I mean every person getting everything displayed?? I think it was way too much, Now I know the folks that recieved those things probably don't think so, but what about the rest of us? I can't even come close to affording a trip to the Dr. phil show, so please don't think well if you would of been here it could of been you, because NO I can't be there. I know these products need promoting, but nothing that they gave away was cheap, Everything on that show today are things I only dream of. I know I am not on the lowest totem pole for poverty, so how do others feel? Do they feel like me? I know there are plenty people out there that would love to have a nice gift. I know I would. Maybe I am not just upset, but a bit jealous. I am not afraid to admit that since it is the truth, but I must say that there are plenty of us out here that don't have much and this show certainly didn't help. I mean come on, Justin Timberlake jeans??.........I do good to afford Wal-Mart and I am sure Jay and Erica don't shop there for clothes but are theirs any better than mine? Other than theirs has a name on it. Big deal. I am diappointed in Dr. Phil that none of his show today was dedicated to just family and the true meaning of Christmas. Instead it was all about the gifts in which most of us can't afford. I hope someone else sees this matter the way I do.

Upset and a bit jealous in Wyoming

I live in Nashville and can barely pay the rent , not that christmas is all about giving gifts but dang he didnt have to give those people all that stuff . I have a 12 year old daughter and we would love to have just a couple of those things. I guess I am just being jealous but it was depressing to see that show when you have no money to buy your own daughter a gift for Christmas.

Upset and a bit jealous in Wyoming

I do wish you wouldn't be jealous over someone else's good fortune.  If you paid attention to the beginning of the show, Dr.Phil said the studio audience was made up of people who were down on their luck, and he wanted to try to give them some hope for the future.  Dr.Phil's sponsors/advertisers helped fulfill that request.  Dr.Phil doesn't buy the gifts that were handed out.  The advertisers donated them to the show free of charge.  It's good for business too (duh).

I believe the studio has a maximum seating arrangement of 250 seats.  It stands to reason that not everyone can fit into a studio that size, so of course lots of people were left out.  Yes, the gifts were extravagant, but the recipients can do whatever they want with them, including exchanging them for more appropriate items later.  That's what I did after the 2003 Christmas Show.  I received some electronic gifts, technology that's way over my head.  I successfully exchanged those items for products better suited for my family.  The only thing I wasn't successful at exchanging was a Delphi Satellite radio.  So I just donated it to the Habitat for Humanity for their annual Charity Auction.

But Christmas isn't about the gifts. I won't deny that it's lots of fun to give & receive, but there's more to it than that.  I was financially strapped when I got to go to the 2003 Christmas Show.  As I stated in another message on 12-19-06, not only did the Dr.Phil Show give me hope, but my church & employer helped out too.  Since then, I've been able to enjoy Christmas from a whole different perspective.  "You'll have no true joy at Christmas if Christ is not in your heart", from Our Daily Bread December 2006/January 2007/February 2007.  And from the same booklet I read: "Work well done for Christ will receive a `well done' from Christ".  Dr.Phil was just the catalyst who choreographed the gift give away.  When his time comes, I know God will tell Dr.Phil that "his was a job well done".

But you are right about one thing.  Dr.Phil couldn't give gifts to everyone who deserved one.  We are a country of over 300 million people.  Hopefully other communities took notice of Dr.Phil's good work, and prepares for their own "Gift Give Away" next Christmas, just by following Dr.Phil's good example.  I hope so anyway.  Always keep Christ in Christmas, in all you do.  God will take care of the rest.

Take care, God Bless & Merry Christmas!!!!!!   : )

the companies that make all the products that were given away were the ones giving everything to the people who were in the audience, it wasnt dr phil, and had you went to the show that day you too would have recived all those beautiful gifts aswell.
