12/12 Convince Me!

Quote From: lsgunter

I also agree with Dr. Phil.  I believe that yes, it is the parents' responsibilites ultimately to teach their children what is beautiful, BUT society also has a responsibility and shouldn't just do whatever they want.  If we only place responsibility on the parents, then we should allow day time cable TV to have hard-core porn and let it be the parents' job to keep their kids from watching and immulating it - that's ridiculous! There has to be boundaries b/c parents can't control everything their children think and do.  They can do their best to instill certain values in them, but research all over shows how much more peer and media influence adolescents than their parents at that age.  And when this guy was comparing the fashion industry/media to pro sports or talk show hosts, no way!  People don't starve themselves to death to try to be talk show hosts or professional athletes!

Ummm, sorry to burst your bubble, but you can if you choose watch hardcore porn on TV during the day if you have satellite or digital cable, so then is it the satellite or cable companie's responsibility to ensure that the PARENTAL CONTROLS are used ?

While we're at it, and I know I'll likely be censored again, is it up to your internet provider to install the PARENTAL CONTROLS on YOUR computer ?

We are given the tools and it is UP TO THE PARENTS to use them, and to monitor their child's activity, though I concur that can't be done 24/7, at home we should have the CONTROL, after all do your kids pay the bills ?

So after watching a talk show about some girl dragging five or six guys on stage for paternity testing, its excusable for your daughter to do so because, " well she saw it on TV, and the media influenced her ", sounds silly dosen't it ?

Or better yet, your kid starts using drugs because they watched the Dr. Phil house recently, that's okay though because they saw it on TV.

Can we STOP blaming the Media for EVERYTHING, I know its easier to blame an inanimate object eg. TV or Computer for ALL of societies troubles than it is to take a close look at ourselves as a species and maybe seeing where we went wrong.

And by the way, does your kid have NOTHING better to do with their time than watch TV, sit on the computer or read the fashion magazines all day ?
