I agree, I have a son who was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6. We gave him
Adderall and then Concerta. These meds helped out alot to calm him down but the down side was that he got extremely angry. He would have nightmare's, he raged, it was like walking on egg shells. When I tried to pull him off the meds he was completely hyper. I thought I was going to have to chose between the lessor of two bad behaviors. Then he was diagnosed with Bipolar. What a difference. Once he was given the right meds we were not only able to control the hyperactivity but the anger and rapid mood swings as well. He still has his moments but what a difference.
The ADHD meds are stimulants and they often cause reactions or bring out the symptoms of Bipolar kids who would otherwise possibly not show the signs of Bipolar till later. A good and very helpful read is The Bipolar Child. It will explain Bipolar and give you hope, and help. It also has alot of helpful resources and sites you can go to. Another good website to visit is www.nami.org. The National Alliance For the Mentally Ill. Chin up there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
