You are right about both books ...

Quote From: ritehere

Marcia, I got that book after it was featured on an Oprah episode. There was some good information in it, but I feel that the authors' guidelines in several areas were way too general. Like the rule for all women being a waistline of so many inches. That may be Ok for most women, but I guarantee my daughter, (at 5' and very petite,) would be very overweight at that measurement. There were some other generalities that made me pause too.
That's why I still prefer Dr Phil's book on weight loss. It's always better to tailor your program and your goals to your body and your life.
But there WAS some new and interesting stuff there too.

I'm now at the crossroads where I need to move pass Dr. Phil's book.  I know it by heart and have mastered quite a bit of all the keys and steps.  Key 5 is a major problem for me ... I can not get what I need from that Key and I've read it so many times now. It just isn't working for me anymore.  That's why I'm turning to Dr. Roizen/Oz's book.  I need answers and being of the analytical sort, I have to understand how my body functions now.

This is a major reason why I was so lost all these years.  I need things broken down to the tiniest degree and if people believe that I can simply say YEAH, OKAY .. well, it's not like that for me.  Even when I worked, I had to take everything apart and then re-build it.  It's just my quirkieness.

I don't go by "guidelines" on weight or body ... I go by now if the information is helpful and does it explain something to me.  Right now, I'm in Chapter 4 -- and it's fantastic reading ... I really understand what I'm reading and know that like Weight Loss Solutions, I'm going to re-read the book at a later date.

I'm not quite sure what Dr. Phil's eating Key lacks the necessary steps for me; however, it does.  I'm still working on adding vegetables to my diet.  And I am at that stage where I'm just slowly changing my eating behaviors.

Have you checked out MINDLESS EATING by Dr. Brian Wansink?  It was really funny reading and so educational for me. It's like a supplement to Dr. Phil's book and I really do believe Dr. Phil used a lot of his Brian's research when he wrote his own book.

I finally understand now why I do not like vegetables and that becoming a good cook is all that I need to be to be a healthy cook.  And his 28-day POWER OF 3 tool is exactly what I'm going to use in 2007 instead of my 45-day focus tool.    Check out the book ... it was so fantasizing that I read it in 1 weekend and wrote all sorts of notes down before I return it to the library.

This book supplements Key 3, Step 4 and Key 4, Step 3.
