denial
Quote From: teachmHow very sad for a fourteen year old girl to be messing up her life so badly. Thank goodness there's a Dr. Phil. Makes you wonder how many more are out there. Pray for all of them. There is way too much denial in this family. The only way there will be any change happening is for the family to break through the denial and want the help. It will NOT be easy for them to change. The mother is not a bad person-just a sick person w/ the disease of alcoholism. This will not be a quick fix for the family. The sister in law is totally into being "right" and that is also sick. The chaos and dysfunction is so extreme. I think if this girl wants help she will have to move into a safe place where there are boundaries taught to her. She doesn't understand anything she is doing.--all she wants is someone to notice her-good or bad. The whole family is sick . Dr.Phil will have to work magic on this family...because no one is getting better until they truly want to change and start looking at their behavior. The mother could afford to go to a AA meeting(costs one dollar a meeting) and make a commitment to changing her life. And truly work a program for HERSELF whether the daughter, sisiter or mother want to work one. The daughter needs to go to Ala-teen...which would help her learn to break the cycle of self destruction. It's not too late for anyone to change if they want to. The first step is honesty. Their life is unmanagable. The commitment needs to be there for them if they want to get better. It's too sad that people live in such fear of change and can not admit that they are the problem. Life shouldn't be so hard!
