And what help do you suppose that us poor transgender folks need? Did it occur to you that some of us lead very healthy and happy lives? Yes- what happened to Gwen, Brandon Teena, and countless others is devastating. BUT that does not happen to all of us- or even the majority. The majority will never regret their decision to transition and will go on to lead amazing lives full of happiness and support. Just like everyone else out there some of us have painful stories and some of us have nothing but good things to tell. It is SOOOOO wrong for others to assume that (1) we need your help and (2) that we are doomed to hardship.
It may amaze you to know that there are actually supportive people out there. In fact, the most supportive of my friends are the ones you would probably call "normal" because they are straight and gender-conforming. In addition, most of the trans people I know are in healthy relationships with partners that could care less that they are transgender. I can't believe that Phil assumed that Cameron would have problems finding a partner due to being transgender. Sure- it's something you talk to a partner about, but for many it won't make or break the relationship.
Perhaps instead of trans people getting help, non-trans people in our society should seek help. If you are so concerned about the murders of Gwen and other trans people, then maybe you should step back and ask yourself why non-trans people kill trans people. What the hell did we ever do to them? How do my chromosomes and genitals affect you? Last time I checked it didn't affect you one bit. Since non-trans people seem to be the ones committing violence, I suggest they be the ones to seek help in changing their behavior. My gender doesn't affect the general public, but violence does.
