kids these days are not taught manners

Quote From: mickeylong

I believe that there is a lack of just plain COMMON SENSE  these days. People push by ya without saying excuse me.... nobody says please or thankyou... when women hold the door for a man they don't even say THANK YOU!  What is going on with people these days??????  Do we have to teach COMMON SENSE as a course in school also?????

I agree with you about people pushing by you without saying "excuse me" and more often than not people don't say "thank you 'for a simple gesture like holding a door open.  i find that woman and children are like this just as often as men.  People seem to have a sense of entitlement-that it is their right to have a door held open for them and that they don't need to show any gratitude.  Add to the list the people who shout into their cell phones at restaurants, people who block aisles and doorways in the stores, rudeness from customer service people on the phone.  The list goes on and on.

I teach young children, and I can see where the rudeness starts.  Many parents don't teach basic consideration and manners to their kids. Rare is the child that says "please' and " thank you".  I do try to teach the kids in my class to say "please' and "thank you", but unless it is reinforced by parents it won't stick.  Kids are also very spoiled and self-centered. There is such a prevailing "me me me" attitude even with very young children. Materialism starts real young.  Girls with Coach bags are getting younger and younger, and they put others down who don't have these things.  Parents, do any of you see yourselves here? If I got even one person to think about teaching their kids some manners, then today was a good day!

What is going on with people today is that we are all becoming a very selfish society that only focusses on the individual needs instead of also looking at each others needs.  It's all about me, me, me.  It is all well and good to look at what makes me a better person(meaning happier and peaceful) but we need to look at the people around us and accept them as part of our world in that we should care about our neighbors.

i got question for u.  The story last week got me wondering this more and more.  THe identity show last week got me wondering bout my own daughter.  She knows who she of course.  She now 6 and starting to develop in certain areas.  Especially lately i noticed when bathing her she starting to get breast tissue already.  I dont understand that bc i didnt start that early nor did my mom.  To answer one question u have-=NO she not over weight.   SHe typical height, weighty for her age.  I feed her normal diet like most preppy parents feed their kids.  She always eats everything on her plate and does drink at least one glass milk every day.  Could the factors be contributing to her hormones or could she just be entering puberty extra EXTRA?? early??  I did talk to to pediatrician bout  it and he didnt have much comment bout it.  Though he hasnt seen her since oct 06 so maybe in his mind she gain extra weight.  Which she didnt do.  She bout 4  1/2 feet tall and bout 60lbs.  Any ideas, suggestions??  My daughter has asked some questions regarding her developing lately and have no answers yet,.. i usually just change the subject to avoid the situation..  aANY TIPS FOR THIS  NEW MOM??

Are we becoming so used to rudeness and bad behavior that we are just immune to it ?  I think so at times.  One of my pet peeves (and I have many trust me) is the holding the door deal - I have had grown men going out a door, look behind them and clearly see me coming and shut the door on purpose.  And the ones that dont say thank you - men AND women alike - are the ones I say loudly YOU ARE WELCOME have a great day ! to.

This happened a few months ago - I went to a Staples and was buying some computer paper - no one was in the checkout line so I walked in grabbed my stuff off the shelf and walked up to pay for it.  Well my god, this fat b**** who had been over looking at the shelves - STILL SHOPPING mind you - came RUNNING over and practicallay knocked me down and shouted I was here first - and I said well you werent standing here.  But she PUSHED me back again and I just sighed and let her go ahead - and she tossed my paper off the counter back in my direction.  THAT did it - I took the paper and tossed it back on the counter - there was plenty of room but OOPS - it landed on a tiny tiny part of her hand and she let out a scream that you would have thought she was being killed and she yelled THAT HURT !!  And I said well whatever - then she said to the clerk - wow some people are SO rude and I said well hun I am glad you recognize your own behavior, now FIX IT !   Too bad I live in a town of over 450,000 people - I would love to run into this woman again - lol
