Perhaps because he fell in love with HER (her soul) and he is mature enough and compassionate enough and bright enough to take on this type of responsibility.
He is not alone in this. Many wonderful men each year adopt disabled children and/or married women with disabled children. I think you've been hanging with the wrong type of men!
