straw argument

Quote From: puggy2

I can't believe you said that ...... get a clue.... your solution for obeseity is for people to "stop making them meals"...it is people like you that do all the finger pointing and laughing that have no idea what it's like ..I sure hope no one in you family ever becomes obese ....I'm afraid you might just starve them to death..so you can live in a perfectly motivated skinny world....
That person meant stop facilitating the excessive consumption of food -  stop making snacks and meals and snacks and meal of poor quality, high calorie meals on demand.  And give me a break.  There's a bit of difference between a "skinny world" and a six-hundred-plus pound person getting down to two hundred pounds.

If a person is mega obese, and depends on others to feed the addiction to food, no one should play ball with that anymore.   You get what's on your diet plan, no more and no less.

So, you don't make them a banana cream pie or batch of cookies.   You dont' give them A cookie.  You don't give them foods with a high glycemic load.  You don't get four eggs fried in butter for breakfast,  you get a single bowl of steel-cut oats, with half a cup of frozen blueberries tossed in.

It's not wrong to stop feeding the disease.

All food must be nutrition dense, and on the plan.   You get no bagel, you get a crisp swedish flatbread with some salmon on it for your afternoon snack.  You get a small apple for dessert, not a slice of apple pie alamode. You get a cup of broccoli, a half cup of carrots  and 3 ounces of chicken, not a plate of grits, gravy, and three pork chops.

You stop enabling the person to eat bad food and way too much of it.  That's not love,  that's not care, its plain evil to enable  a mega-obese person to eat too much.

I am one of those "Skinny People " you seem to resent and despise, brought up with obese women all my life, so I don't know how they felt, I can understand the problem from another point of view ( and NO we don't all point and laugh).

Yes, family HAS to get onboard, tell me would you buy heroin for a drug addict, or a case of beer for an alcoholic ?  I doubt it, so why be expected to give an obese person say a bag of chips, instead of offering a salad ?  It is quantity and the quality of the food that counts, I honestly don't think the other poster was suggesting a starvation regeime.

Help them get motivated by going out with them, I'm NEVER ashamed to be seen with my Mother or my aunt, and those who do stare, well that's their problem.  I remember an incident at the Mall one day when a rude a-hole commented about my Mother,

" Boy, is that woman FAT" he said, to which I replied, " yeah, but you're ugly as sin, and at least she could diet. "  So yeah, I have heard the comments, and you know what when you are told all your life you look "just like your Mom " it does distort your own relationship with food, and your own body image, so like any other addict, it is NOTjust YOUR problem, it is a FAMILY issue, starvation and isolation are NOT the answer, but we do NOT have to feed it or enable it either.
