I've known a Mother & daughter who both had it & they, seperately & together, made their entire family miserable. They also made outrageous claims against other children as far back as when the daughter was in the first grade just to get attention & be "special", & to cover up the sometimes criminal antics of the little girl. It later developed into medical problems for the daughter, mostly brought on by herself & inflicted upon herself. It was a truly sad situation & nobody came out a winner in it. I believe the Mother qualified for "Munchausen's by Proxy". The sad part is that the person with Munchausen's actually does believe the ridiculous things they claim. Usually though, the law, the medical professionals, & others figure them out, but it can sometimes take many years & a lot of damage can be done to whoever they decide to single out.
