07/11 What’s Up, Doc?

Quote From: tamarajw

I am feeling your pain. Both of my sisters have been diagnoses with fibromyalgia and I with myofascial pain syndrome--both autoimmune disorders. I also am plagued with a bulged disc in the lower back and cervial disc problems. AND, you are right, you get passed from one specialist to another until they send you back to your GP with a pat on the back. Luckily, I have a very good general practioner who also treats my sisters. The thing is this--the medical profession can't get together to conform a concensus on what fibromyalgia is let alone how to treat it. Then you throw in other medical problems and it's hands off!  I am hopeful we will see patients with autoimmune disorders treated with more respect and interest in the medical community. But, in the meantime, what are we to do?
I have fibro as well, and back problems. I have problems from my T-12 all the way to the S-2. I have undiagnosed cervical issues. The whole lumbar area is shot. No discs left there. Luckily, I have a great doctor who keeps me on my feet.  SHE is an osteopath. And she "believes" in fibro, though the treatment is much the same...treat the symptoms. Most older doctors don't "believe" in fibro, hence patients suffering from it appear to be some kind of hypochondriac. I feel one of these days (though I doubt I'll live long enough to see it, lol) they'll make great strides concerning auto-immune disorders. They'll find out what causes them, and the best course of treatment. Until then....we just do the best we can with what we've got...and pray for an educated, understanding physician.....
