Just being in a wheelchair is not quite the same thing.  I want to be able to be the one who takes care of my son, for the rest of his life or mine.  If I continue to give him shots to make him grow at a "normal" rate, I will eventually be unable to take care of him.  I'd way rather be able to keep him at home with his family than in an institution.  What holds true for one person doesn't necessarily hold true for another.

it's not just being physically disabled that's causing them to make this decision. this young girl will never be able to interact with anyone beyond a 3 month old capability. for many of the families i worked with, the week at camp was more a vacation for the parents than it was for the child at camp.
