a pound of muscle takes up less volume than a pound of fat.  For example and this is not scientificly true just trying to help you understand.  Say 1 pound of fat fills a gallon jug that you get milk in but in order to fill the gallon jug with muscle it may take 5lbs of muscle to fill the jug.  More lbs of muscle in the same volume as less fat
